BFSC 2009/10 Entry Rules

Please read these Rules/Release very carefully. Complete the electronic submission form fully and upload your screenplay. When you press submit you will be taken to a payment page where you can pay the submission fee with a credit/debit card or a PayPal account - you Do Not have to have a PayPal account to use this service.

  1. Entry into this competition confirms each entrant’s acceptance of these rules and regulations.
  2. The British Feature Screenplay Competition is open to writers of any nationality from any country.
  3. The entered screenplay must not have been previously optioned, sold or produced.
  4. Screenplays must be written in English language.
  5. The screenplay must be no less than 80 minutes and no more than 110 minutes screen time.
  6. Screenplays of any genre will be considered and must be the original work of the author submitting it. Where the screenplay is based upon another piece of work it is the responsibility of the screenplay writer to obtain permission/copyright clearances from the original author.
  7. Screenplays based upon another work must be clearly marked as such.
  8. Screenplays must be submitted by the deadline, no late entries will be accepted unless agreed by prior arrangement.
  9. Entering the competition constitutes permission to use the winners’ names and licenses for publicity and promotions without any additional compensation.
  10. Multiple authorship screenplays are acceptable.
  11. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
  12. All entrants acknowledge that neither the judges nor the sponsors or any partners mentioned here on this site or any other publication will be held responsible for any and all disputes between you and the British Feature Screenplay Competition (BFSC).
  13. All entrants acknowledge that the final winner will be expected to make a standard form of assignment of all rights in the finished work to Kaos Films and provide a waiver of so called “moral rights”.
  14. Kaos Films will be the producers of the winning screenplay.
  15. No cash alternatives to any of the prizes or additional payments shall be made.
  16. The Competition organizers reserve the right to reject any entry for any reason at their absolute discretion.
  17. The Competition organizers reserve the right to appoint any director, producer to the winning script.
  18. No substitution or new drafts or corrected pages for screenplay entries will be accepted under any circumstances.
  19. Only submit one copy.
  20. Multiple entries are accepted. But entry must be made separately.
  21. Please upload screenplay with title ONLY. The authors name must not appear on the title page or anywhere within the body of the uploaded screenplay.
  22. The writer’s name must not appear anywhere within the body of the screenplay.
  23. No additional material should be attached/uploaded with the screenplay.
  24. The organizers reserve the right to amend these rules and regulations at any time by notice on www.kaosfilms.co.uk

Release for submitted material

This release is being accepted by you in connection with the material you wish the judges of The British Feature Screenplay Competition to review.

You acknowledge that the screenplay you are submitting may contain characters, concepts and other material similar to characters, concepts and other material which the judges of the competition or their companies or Kaos Films or their partners are currently developing/producing or are considering developing/producing.

You agree that in consideration for their reviewing and perhaps discussing the submitted screenplay with you, you will not at any time assert or attempt any claim against The British Feature Screenplay Competition or Kaos Films or any of the judges of the competition, sponsors, partners, or any other person connected with the competition with respect to any use of similar material in any project which is developed, produced, distributed, licensed or sold by all the above mentioned parties.

The judges agree to make a reasonable good faith effort to protect the confidentiality of any original material contained in the work.

You agree that should your screenplay be the winner of this competition it will be produced by Kaos Films and shot where Kaos Films considers best.

You agree that if your screenplay wins the competition you will/may be called upon to write further revisions with our script editor/producer/director.
